buyer should follow specific formulas in finding the Sheltie puppy
that is perfect for him/her. The first question that should be asked
is whether this puppy is purchased to breed/show or as a family pet.
If a Shelties is to be a family pet, it should be spayed/neutered.
Just because a child wants to see "some cute puppies" is not a valid
reason for her to have a litter. When purchasing a Sheltie puppy,
there are a number of questions that should be asked of the breeder:
1. Do they do genetic testing on their Shelties? 2. Can they
provide you with copies of all the genetic testing that has been
preformed on the parents of these puppies? 3. What kind of genetic
guarantee will they offer with the Sheltie puppy? 4. What kind of
socialization does the Sheltie puppy have? 5. Are the Sheltie
puppies kept inside a home so they can learn socialization? 6. Are
their own Shelties shown in conformation, agility or obedience? 7.
How many litter does the Sheltie bitch have each year? These are
some of the most important aspects of purchasing the perfect Sheltie
for you. If you need assistance in finding the right Sheltie puppy,

One final reminder: NEVER, never, never purchase a puppy from a pet store. No reputable breeder sells to "pet stores" or "puppy brokers." Most of "pet store" puppies come from puppy mills and backyard breeders.
